Hi Michael, I have recently been back to Munich for a conference. It was a pity we did not met there. But guess what, on my flight from Stockholm we had these on-seat entertainment systems. I was browsing through the music-clips, and found one by Sade. It reminded me of her songs that we were listening together in your car three years ago. On the music clip it said “Munich, 1984″. Whow, I thought, so amazing music was played before i was born. But since the clip does not mention exactly when in 1984 the concert took place, in theory my mom could have been there while being already pregnant with me, and I heard the song prenataly. I found a copy of it on youtube, so enjoy Sade.
Take care

Ghazal Dear, I think I was waiting for this event since 25 years. It was in 1986 that somebody working in a Leipzig record shop gave me the first SADE record, “Diamond Live” as a birthday present. It was one of the few musics from the west that by some reason made their way into the east-german shops (in very limitted edition of course). I wrote you last year, that her music was like a revelation for me, opening phantasies into a world so different from the daily university life at the physics institute. And for you, who obviously never heard her music befor, the relaxed and tempting sound and her amazing voice appeared astonishing contemporary. If asked to guess her age, you came up with somebody of your generation. But in fact she is 53 now.
When I fall in love with her music 25 years ago, I never thought that there might be the chance to hear her live. But tonight, more or less by lucky chance, I finally had this chance. After my 50s birthday party was coming to an end, at 11 pm, I decided to give it a trial, knowing that she is playing tonight during her 2011 world tour in the Munich Olympia Hall (just below the Olympia TV tower that we climed up last summer).
Although the concert was already running since an hour, I managed to sneak in, even without a ticket. The concert was great, a lot of new songs that I did heard before. Unfortunately, only very few from her recent album Soldier of Love.
I don”t know if it would be correct to say that I was waiting impatiently since 25 years to see her in a concert. Probably not. I went to lot of other music that I enjoyed a lot since then. But the love for her sound remained somewhere in the long-term memory. Everything else that came and go during this quarter of a century could not diminish this fascination. And I”m sure the same will happen for everything that I feel for you.

Take Care
Michael

———————————————————————————-

hi michael,

How did you managed to get into the Olympia-Hall at such an event ? Sade played in Stockholm during her 2011 World tour on the 10th of May, but when I saw the adverts all tickets were sold out. There were tickets for the equivalent of 180 € available on the black market, but this would be too much for me.
Did she played the one song that we heard on the radio while driving to Ikea last year ? I cant remember the title any more, but it was something like extra-ordinary love. I liked her music when I listened to it last year and when you let me guess from which year it was. I thought it is very new, maybe too new for me to know already. But then you told me that her debut album was 1984, so as you suggested there was really a good chance that I was listening to her first hits in-utero.
I could imagine my mom would have loved her songs a lot when she was pregnant with me , rather than the Jazz-music that you send last year.

I hope that Sade will play in Sweden again. Next time I will try to get in, with a ticket or without one: just teach me please how to slip in without one.

Hope you keep the memories of this concert for a long time,
take care

Hi michael,

In case you want to listen to some great music, have a look at this collection of Sade”s greatest hits (you can click each of them and listen the full length title – if you don”t stop, it even plays the entire album).
And there is a video of her performing for her newest album. Its unbelievable, she is already 52 and makes such a powerful and young appearance. When you send me some of her music in July and asked me to guess her age, I was somehow sure that she is my age (just by listening to the music). But still now, seeing her performing in this video of her latest 2010 recordings, she is still so fresh and tempting.

Hope you are alright, my Dear, every day has at least one or two great moments and you feel amazing.

take care

Hi Ghazal my dear,
Thanks for the messsage, it really enlightened this dark and grey evening for me. To be honest, if I read your words, no matter what they say, it seems I can hear your voice, and this is more than the pure exchange of information.
Also, when you write that music by Sade suits your taste best, I”m really happy knowing one thing more that you like (in addition to IKEAs Pizza and Hot Chocolate). But in general, I find it really difficult to guess what you dream of. I hope not of a royal marriage the kind we will soon see in Stockholm between a princess and a fitness-coach. You probably don”t have to worrie a lot about dreams, because you live in a quite safe situation, with parents caring for you, a boy-friend who loves you and your whole life being still open. Therefore, there is in fact no need to torture yourself with dreams, most of which will either never come true or take to long to become real, and you better think about what makes you happy today.
About the music: your guess who is the older and who the young of the two singers was not right, sorry. Sade had her big times in the 80s, her first record “Diamond Life” was released 1984, about the same time when Michael Jackson started his carrier. And this album was also sold in license in east-germany, and I was very lucky to get one and heard it day and night in my students appartment. The songs I put on the CD, however, are from her recent 2010 album “Soldier of Love”. If one compares songs from these two records, which are separated by about 25 years, they both sound very similar and still very appealing.

It is already late again, and I will stop now.

Have a good night, see you tomorrow

Michael

Hi Ghazal, Did you enjoyed the music that I gave you ? I don”t know if it matches your taste. The “Friday Night in San Francisco” concert was recorded in 1983, and was very popular than and still is considered a mile-stone in popular music, although it is rarely played nowadays in radio. But I think when you were born,… (more...)

Hi Ghazal,

Did you enjoyed the music that I gave you ? I don”t know if it matches your taste. The “Friday Night in San Francisco” concert was recorded in 1983, and was very popular than and still is considered a mile-stone in popular music, although it is rarely played nowadays in radio. But I think when you were born, it was always on air. There is a theory saying that music, that was around during somebodies early childhood influences your taste for the rest of your life. Maybe you know that there is one hypothesis saying that even the unborn embryo in the mothers womb is already very much exposed to sounds coming from the outside, and that there is an unconscious memory to the music from this prenatal period of life. If this is true, than you might like this “Friday Night in San Francisco”, assuming that your mom listened to it when she was pregnant with you.
The other two records are by singers that belong to two different generations. One made her big debute also about 25 years ago, the other is much younger (first appearance on stage in 2008). I would be very curious if you can tell who of the two (one is Asa and the other is Sade) is from the 20th century and who is from 21st. Of course you might click on their webpages (which are also stored on the CD) and look it up.

Yours Michael

PS: These hype around Football World-Championship is awful, don”t you think so ? How can get people so occupied by the question which nation kicks a ball more frequently. I have the battle for a ball every morning with my dog, but would not build my whole mental energy around this game.
