The discoveries of a year-long practise of p-h-y-s-i-c-a-l, m-e-n-t-a-l and s-e-x-u-a-l abuse by the “teachers” of boys-schools run by the catholic church in Germany shows that the institutions of segregational education are a fertile ground for all sorts of tyranny.

In Iran, it is very common, in particular after the so-called islamic revolution it was introduced. But there are mainly single-gender classes, whereas the schools are mixed. I also doubt that single-gender schools are doing any good in the interest of woman. The new “bible” of femal empowerment, Sheryl Sandbergs “Lean In” never mentions segregational school education as an important and appropriate way. I personally always enjoyed learning and working in mixed environments, and you are right they provide the best training for real life.
